With the first quarter of the current fiscal year already over, it is time for companies to review how they have fared between April and June. Sony has not missed its usual appointment to publish the financial results it has obtained, which has allowed us to verify that a total of 21.7 million PS5s have been sold to date.
This means that 2.4 million units have been purchased since the previous quarter, 0.1 million more compared to the figures recorded last year in the same period of time. As for PS4, this time it has not been indicated how it has gone, so it should not be far from the 117 million units it was going for.
Moving on to PlayStation Plus, even though the service has been revamped by merging with PlayStation Now, the number of subscribed users remains at 47.3 million. Therefore, it has decreased slightly by 0.1 million during the last three months, although the numbers are good if we take into account that last year at this time there were 46.3 million people who were signed up.
What has not done so well is the combined sale of PS5 and PS4 video games, which remains at 47.1 million during the first quarter of fiscal year 2022, which falls from the 70.5 million reached between January and March of this year. In turn, it represents a decrease of 16.5 million compared to the 63.6 million that were achieved in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year.
On the other hand, a total of 6.4 million copies belong to Sony’s first-party video games and users continue to prefer the digital format when purchasing them, because 79% of the sales that have occurred have been digital.
