sony announced this Wednesday, officially and during Playstation Showcasewhich is working on what is known internally as Q project. Some time ago it was leaked that PlayStation would be thinking of returning to the world of portable consoles. But is this a controller or a console? We tell you what we know so far.
This new device would aim to compete with others such as Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck from Valve, Razer Edge and the ROG Ally from Asus. But we insist: yes, it reminds us of the Switch, but also of WiiU.
The equipment would work with remote play to stream games from a PS5, would have an 8-inch LCD screen. Some of these data were confirmed yesterday: yes, the screen would be 8 inches. His design? It looks like a DualSense cut in half and with a screen in the middle.
From PlayStation they pointed out that “it will also support adaptive transmission with a resolution of up to 1080p and 60 fps.”

It was the head of PlayStation himself, Jim Ryan, who delivered the announcement at the event, saying that “we are launching a dedicated device that allows you to stream any game from your PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi, known internally as ‘ Project Q””.
The aforementioned Remote Play is already a bet that Sony has been promoting lately, allowing a DualSense control to be synchronized with operating systems such as macOS, Windows, iOS and Android to transmit video games -preferably- over WiFi. You can also use mobile internet, but Ars Technica remember that this functionality has registered several latency problems (lag).
When would this bet come?
Almost there. The new device will be launched at the end of 2023, surely with another name, and it will be cheaper than a PlayStation 5, but be careful: in order to play in ‘Project Q’, the titles must be installed on said next-generation console. Or at least that was understood in the ad.
That is why our doubt: Console or control with screen? For now everything points to Project Q is not a standalone gaming device, but more of a companion device to the PlayStation 5. Wii U more than Switch?: Maybe it can work both ways. We will wait attentively for the release.
