Some women lose focus when they see their bodies after giving birth: the tummy is gone, but its appearance is not the same as before. Calm down… your body needs a few weeks to recover from pregnancy and childbirth
After pregnancy and giving birth, the body undergoes numerous changes until it recovers, for this you need time and a little help. “Will I go back to normal?” Is a frequent question. Don’t panic, but it can take up to nine months for your figure to be the same again: be patient. We clarify the most frequent doubts for you to take into account with philosophy.
LOSE WEIGHT
During lactation, diets are contraindicated, but it is important that you follow a balanced diet so that you produce enough milk.
THE FIGURE OF “BEFORE”
To return to its normal size and weight, your body experiences a series of contractions, called wrongs, in the days after delivery. It is because the uterus descends one centimeter a day, although the hip takes up to a year.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR BREASTS
After delivery, your breasts noticeably increase in size and you may feel pain. To relieve the sensation, apply compresses or warm cloths. It is important that you wear a nursing bra that supports your breasts well. The breasts do not fully recover their pre-pregnancy appearance due to the volume increase experienced, although showers (alternating cold and hot water) can greatly improve their appearance.
SWELLY BELLY
After delivery, your belly will continue to swell for a few days until the uterus returns to its normal size. The abdominal wall, distended during pregnancy, will remain soft for some time, but gradually it will take its natural shape. You can start practicing light gymnastics if your doctor tells you to, and if your abdominal muscles were good before pregnancy, they will regain their tone in six weeks.
SEXUAL RELATIONS
The vaginal walls are more distended by the baby’s passage. Therefore, it is possible that the sensations during intercourse are different from those prior to pregnancy. In addition, after delivery, vaginal dryness usually increases due to estrogen deficiency.
THE SCAR
– The episiotomy should not hurt after three weeks. You can resume sex by quarantining as long as your doctor tells you to.
– If it was a C-section, it will be hard for a while and then it will become more flexible. Three months (or at most eight) after delivery, the scar will have been reduced to a simple thin line.
DO NOT USE THEM
The use of tampons is contraindicated until the next menstruation, to avoid the risk of infection.
YOUR WOUND
– If you had a cesarean section, keep in mind that it will take about a month for the wound to close completely, but the external points will heal in 10 days. C-section wound does not require special care; it is enough to bathe, dry it well and leave it for a while in the air. But do not carry heavy objects or bend down frequently, since if you force the abdomen it could open some point and this would delay the recovery.
– Keep the wound of the episiotomy clean and dry until healing, about 10 days later. You should not stay on your feet too long and learn to sit by contracting your buttocks to reduce tension on the perineum.
