The imminent arrival of the iPhone 13 at next week’s California Streaming event raises other related questions. One of the most repeated is this: when is iOS 15 released to the public? The company has yet to reveal the iOS 15 release date, a detail that does not disclose until the corresponding presentation. But that does not prevent us from making guesswork.
IOS 15 release date: the three possibilities
As those of us who have followed Apple for years know, the company can be unpredictable in details like this. The release date of iOS 15 it could be any day and for whatever reason you see fit. But thanks to the past, we can get a pretty reliable idea of when it might be.
The possible release dates for iOS 15 are as follows:
- Tuesday September 14: the same day of the keynote, when the event closes, as it happens at WWDC.
- Wednesday September 15– Last year, Apple held a keynote in September and released iOS 14 the next day. This makes us think that if the keynote is on the 14th, on the 15th iOS 15 could be launched.
- Tuesday September 21Another option is for the company to wait a whole week after the keynote to launch iOS 15. In this way, several releases come together occupying the week with news from Apple.
Any of these options is possible. The truth is that since we live in a pandemic, the dance of dates is unpredictable.
When did Apple release iOS versions in recent years?
One way to try to figure out what Apple will do in the future is to look at the past. As far as dates are concerned, can be a great indicator. However, as we said before, the pandemic has thrown a good handful of uncertainty into the matter. In any case, let’s see when did Apple release the iOS version in recent years. And we are going to compare it with the date of the iPhone event of that year:
- iOS 10: September 13, 2016. iPhone 7 announced on September 7.
- iOS 11: September 19, 2017. iPhone X announced on September 12.
- iOS 12: September 17, 2018. iPhone XS announced on September 12.
- iOS 13: September 19, 2019. iPhone 11 announced on September 10.
- iOS 14: September 16, 2020. Apple Watch Series 6 announced on September 15.
If we look at it, we have a fairly broad spectrum of days, which van from 1 day last year to 9 days. As we saw in the previous section, the final date of the launch of iOS 15 could end up being in the range of one week.
IOS 15 beta 8 was released on August 31. We still need to see the version release candidate, that it might as well be released next week as a preliminary step to the final version of iOS 15. Perhaps this is the definitive clue as to when iOS 15 will be released.
