Porsche’s landing in Formula 1 is stuck due to the lack of an agreement with Red Bull. The company directed by Dietrich Mateschitz raises several doubts and the time for the Stuttgart firm begins to run out.
Formula 1 has finally managed to become really attractive so that those automotive brands that are not involved in the sport after years of unsuccessful attempts to open the door to them with negative results.
While porsche seemed the first on the list to reach the queen category of motorsport, Audi ended up overtaking them on the right with the confirmation of his landing in the middle of the Belgian Grand Prix week, accompanying his presentation with a single-seater like the one used by the teams at the beginning of year with its colors.
“Many details remain to be clarified. Porsche is welcome, but the matter is not that simple.”
The final engine regulations for 2026 were not approved until last August 16tha late move that scuppered Red Bull’s idea of announcing its merger with Porche at the Austrian GP, the local event for the Austrians
However, the latest talks between the two sides have led to a stalling of negotiationswith a clear main reason as a controversial element: the level of influence of Porsche in Red Bull operations.
Independence as a key factor
Own Helmut Marko classified this process as a “complex situation” still to be resolved. The crux of the matter is that Porsche intends to seize up to 50% of the shares in this case, a move that worries the core of Red Bull.
That is why they do not rule out options such as manufacturing their own propellant themselves. “Now we can also build our own engine on our behalf. Then we would be the only team, apart from Ferrari, to develop the car and powertrain under one roof,” Marko mused.
A new period of collaboration with Sling It is not left off the table either, although the definitive approach should be turned around. “Many details remain to be clarified. Porsche is welcome, but the matter is not so simple. I hope the negotiations come to fruition», confessed Christian Horner for his part.
The British leader dropped that, if he had not founded Red Bull Powertrains, “The alternative would have been a client engine with Ferrari or Renault”, so finishing hand in hand with the Japanese was a positive experience for them that they would not mind repeating.
Porsche has up to October 15th to close your registration in the 2026 Formula 1 by making the payment of the corresponding fee. Otherwise, they will have to wait to see if in 2027 the ‘Great Circus’ maintains a gap for a manufacturer that has ended up complicating its arrival in F1.
