According to the police report, on July 18, 2022 at 3:10 pm, a phone call was received that there was a bomb in the hospital. Secaucus police responded to the hospital along with bomb-sniffing dogs from the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and the Bayonne Police Department.
During a security sweep of the hospital, the bomb detection canine gave a positive indication in an open cabinet inside an office.
Authorities found the weapons cache inside the closet in the office of Hospital Marketing Director Reuven Alonalayoff. In the closet were 27 rifles and shotguns, 11 pistols, a .45-caliber semi-automatic, and 14 rounds of high-capacity ammunition.
Reuven Alonalayoff was arrested on Sunday, August 7, at Newark Liberty International Airport. where he charged the 46-year-old Elmwood Park resident with possession of an assault rifle and two high-capacity magazines.
“The unsecured storage of a large number of weapons, especially at this location, certainly creates a risk to public safety,” said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. Reuven Alonalayoff can receive a maximum sentence of between five and 10 years.
