Pokémon GO players have organized a boycott of Niantic’s game and have managed to get the company to respond to their complaints, although the future is still uncertain.
Pokémon GO continues to be a mass success and that is evident with the profits it has made despite the pandemic. But that doesn’t mean that users kiss the ground Niantic steps on. In fact, it’s the opposite.
And, is that, the framework of the pandemic takes on great importance in what is happening with Pokémon GO. Throughout the quarantine months, Niantic introduced several changes so that the game could continue to be viable and users could enjoy it from home.
Remember that the basic mechanics of Pokémon GO is walking in order to find different types of Pokémon and capture them, in addition to fighting in gyms or getting the hatched eggs to hatch.
What has happened is that Niantic, seeing the good evolution of the current global situation, has decided to return to a series of old mechanics. These mechanics were meant to make users feel Pokemon go like the game it was at launch.
The problem is that players have not taken all that well to return to these mechanics. Their anger has been such that they have decided to organize a boycott of the application. The way to operate this boycott is by not accessing or playing Pokémon GO for a day.
The response from Niantic dealing with this issue has been positive, although many users are not entirely convinced. In the full message you can read that they are going to create a new team that looks at the demands made by the players.
In principle, they treat the boycott as a kind of feedback to improve the game. So what they will try to do is make the relevant changes to make the users happy.
Of course, they maintain their determination that, in some countries and whenever it is safe, going out to explore is a necessary mechanic for the development of Pokémon GO. For now it seems that this has not been resolved as users have wanted.
We will have to wait to see how far the supposed negotiations between users and companies reach. The truth is that it is curious to see the change of power when the players decide to make a stop when playing a certain game.
