Yesterday it was revealed that the digital stores of the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will reach their final in March 2023. Although this means that it will be impossible to download hundreds of games, all is not lost. Through a communicated in the official account of Japan, Pokémon Bank confirmed that you will drop your subscription, and it will become a free app in March 2023.
Pokémon Bank is an application that allows you to store up to three thousand pocket creatures in the cloud, and can be connected to all the games in the series on 3DS, as well as Pokémon Home on Switch and mobile. Once the Wii U and 3DS digital stores come to an end, you will no longer have to pay to access this service. However, this only applies to those who have this app downloaded, as it will be impossible to do this in March 2023.
Although this sounds like a positive response, the official statement has indicated that eventually this service will also come to an end, although The Pokémon Company has not yet determined when this will happen.. Similarly, at the moment this information comes from the Japanese account, and there is currently no similar response in the West, but this could change at any time.
In related topics, you can learn more about the closure of the Wii U and 3DS eShop here. Similarly, Nintendo has no plans to offer any classic gaming services beyond Switch Online.
Editor’s Note:
The closure of the eShop on Wii U and 3DS is a very sad thing, as it will make certain digital experiences inaccessible for many players. At least applications like Pokémon Bank will be alive for longer, hopefully more news in the coming days.
