Although it is true that the podcast they have gained great popularity hand in hand with the growth of platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music, reality dictates that their listening is not the same in the countries; in some more, in others less.
Official information indicates that it was in 2004, just under 20 years, when the term “podcast” it appeared in the language of a society that was beginning to get much more into technology.
According to what history dictates, “podcast” emerges as a contraction of iPod Y broadcast either portable-on-demand (pod) and broadcastand it is, today, one of the formats most listened to by audiences.
The boom by audio content has been such that platforms such as Twitter, among others, have begun to reinvent themselves with the aim of offering this experience to their users premium (Twitter Blue), as announced a few weeks ago.
In which countries are podcasts listened to the most?
Of course, as with all audiovisual content, there are countries, regions or users that have their own preferences and podcasts are no exception.
Taking into account the latest data from the macro-survey Statista Global Consumer Surveyit is in countries like Brazil (49 percent), Sweden (45 percent), and Mexico (40 percent) where listening to podcasts is much more frequent.
On the other hand, countries like United States (29 percent), France (22 percent), China (22 percent), and South Korea (15 percent) they are the ones that register the least reproductions in terms of audio content, a fact that shows that, despite the great growth that the format is generating, it is necessary to conquer an important audience.
Now, according to what is shown in the graph deposited above, of the 40 percent of users who listen podcast in Mexico, 37 percent do so occasionally, while frequent listeners are only 3 percent.
On the other hand, information from the study Global Entertainment & Media Outlook 2021–2025 announce that there is a community of 22 million “podescuchas” in Mexico, a figure that, by 2025, is estimated to reach 35 millionwhich is why the trend towards audio content, far from slowing down, will continue to grow.
Similarly, estimates by the consulting firm PwC indicate that, within three years, approximately, there will be a community of 974 million people who will listen podcast all over the world.
It should be noted that, in the channel of a podcaster Mexican, known as JP Martínez, it was announced that, to develop good audio content, an investment of approximately 60 thousand pesos would have to be contemplated, this according to the experience of said creator.
In short, everything indicates that the podcast will continue to be one of the most interesting markets for companies to explore; however, at present, short video platforms continue to lead the preference of Internet users, where TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube and Instagram are becoming more and more consolidated.
