Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard is also being investigated.
We know that the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is being investigated by various agencies to verify that everything has been done correctly and is in accordance with the law, but the purchase of Bungie by Sony would also be investigated, despite being a much lower acquisition at a monetary level. Even so, PlaySyation bought Bungie for $3.6 billion being a single studio with only one published IP to date, a deal whereby the company paid too much, say some analysts.
As The Information reporter Josh Sisco reports, “The FTC is getting deeper into the video game industry, opening an investigation into Sony’s $3.6 billion deal for Bungiethe studio behind the first-person shooter Destiny.” It also ensures that it “follows the in-depth investigation of Microsoft’s $69 billion deal for Activision Blizzard,” so neither of the two operations is 100% safe that it can move forward if the investigation finds any irregularities.

The specific reasons why the FTC has begun to study this operation are unknown. That is, it is not known what kind of irregularities are they looking for, but it is to be hoped that it will be made public immediately if the agency opposes these operations. Nothing indicates that this may be so.
Sony bets on online services
Apparently, the purchase of Bungie by Sony was not only due to Destiny and the new IP that the studio would be working on, the company would also help PlayStation in one way or another to be able to launch those 10 games as a service. that I would have planned to release PlayStation between now and 2026. Without a doubt, a great twist of the traditional discourse of the company that bet on narrative experiences for a player blockbuster budget.
