Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experiences at PlayStation, confirmed in the latest episode of the brand’s official podcast that PSVR 1 video games will not be compatible with the expected PSVR 2.
On the show, Nishino discussed the features, design development, and build of the new VR headset for PS5. Directly, they asked him if the next generation virtual reality titles could be played on the new headsets and his answer was negative.
According to the transcript posted on the report’s website GizmodoNishino explained: “PSVR video games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation virtual reality experience.”.
Technically speaking, the senior vice president of platform experiences at PlayStation said the reasons are haptic feedback-ready controllers, with adaptive triggers, as well as inside-out tracking and eye-tracking, among others.
“Developing games for PSVR 2 requires a completely different approach than the original PSVRNishino said.
PSVR 2 Features
Sony’s plan is that, upon launch in early 2023, PSVR 2 has more than 20 compatible video gamesin addition to the expected releases of Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Horizon Call of the Mountain.
