“We have been able to identify the CFI-1202B (Digital Edition) and CFI-1202A (with disc drive) that were purchased from Australian retailers in the last week, including EB Games, Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi.”, assures Press Start.
Regarding this new version, it is lighter than the one that came out in November 2020 and the one that underwent revision in 2021.
Physical specifications of the new PS5
Technically it is the recognized PS5 and its size is identical, the only thing that changes is its weight. The digital version weighs 3.4 kilos and is 200 grams lighter than the 2021 model and 500 grams lighter than the launch version.
For its part, the console with reader weighs 3.9 kilos and is 300 grams lighter than last year’s model, about 600 grams less than the standard launch console.
Interestingly, this latest PS5 model with a reader weighs the same as the November 2020 launch digital edition. Comparing the prices for reviews, the comparison would look like this:
- 2020: disc: 4.5 Kg / Digital: 3.9 Kg
- 2021: Disc: 4.2 Kg / Digital: 3.6 Kg
- 2022: disc: 3.9 Kg / Digital: 3.4 Kg
Regarding the changes that Sony made to reduce the weight of the console, nothing has been leaked in this regard, but in 2021 the console’s heatsink was modified.
The company plans to raise PS5 prices soon due to “the global economic environment,” said Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation, adding that the goal remains to improve the availability of console units in stores.
