The community of gamers of Sony’s next-generation console is growing by leaps and bounds, and with the success of its current star console, more than a year has passed since the PlayStation 5 was launched on the market and, in All this time, both this console and the Xbox Series X of its main competitor have had a serious problem: the lack of stock to cover the immense demand.
Something that seems quite curious to us is that this does not mean that a considerable number of consoles have been manufactured to satisfy thirsty Next-Gen players as much as possible. Thus, to date, the PS5 has been able to sell up to 17 million units, a stratospheric figure for its early days.
This information can be found in the data revealed by Sony in the fiscal balance of its last quarter. Here, we find in detail that the PS5, as we have already mentioned, has exceeded the figure of 17 million consoles sold.
However, there are not only numbers for the most recent console, since they have also updated the number of PS4 sold and, certifying its great dominance in the last generation, it currently has up to 116.8 million, a figure that places it among the best-selling consoles in history.
In addition, the current growth of PS5 is even above the sales registered by the PlayStation 2 (14.8 million) in the same period of time. There is no doubt that the high sales of PS5 are influenced by the lack of stock, something that further feeds back the rise in demand.
There is no doubt that Sony started with a great advantage in this generation. The dominant position of PlayStation 4 over Xbox One has made the console market lean towards the Japanese brand, unlike the practically 50-50 from which PS3 and Xbox 360 came.
