Passengers on an Alaska Airlines plane that landed at Seattle Airport from New Orleans were evacuated after one of the passenger’s phones caught fire.
Although the team was unrecognizable by the flames, a Seattle airport spokesperson told The Verge that it was a Samsung Galaxy A21.
“During an interview with one of our Seattle airport police officers, the owner of the equipment voluntarily said that his phone was a Samsung Galaxy A21. We could not confirm it by looking at the remains of the device, “revealed the spokesman.
Unocero contacted Samsung for more details.
Although no serious injuries are reported, two passengers were taken to a nearby hospital due to the smoke that generated the explosion inside the cabin.
It is not the first time that an accident of this type has occurred
The situation makes it impossible not to remember what happened in 2016 with the Galaxy Note 7, a team that due to battery manufacturing problems generated several explosions in different countries of the world; in fact, one of these explosions also occurred on an airplane.
Given the situation, the FAA prohibited passengers from boarding any flight with a Galaxy Note 7. In the end, Samsung withdrew all units from the market to avoid any type of accident.
So far everything seems to indicate that this accident is an isolated case, as there are no reports in other parts of the world that the Galaxy A21 have problems with the battery. In fact, many of the explosions that occur in a phone are due to deterioration caused by the use of non-recommended chargers, or physical damage caused by users.
