Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli announced that it will invest 114 million euros (2,247 million pesos at the current exchange rate) to expand production at its plant located in Silao, Guanajuato, creating 400 additional jobs, reaching up to 3,200 when it is fully operational.
The investment was announced during the visit of the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, to the Silao factory on the occasion of the celebration of its tenth anniversary. The ceremony was also attended by a video message from the Executive Vice President and CEO of Pirelli, Marco Tronchetti Provera; and the presence of the Italian Ambassador in Mexico, Luigi De Chiara; from the President and CEO of Pirelli North America, Claudio Zanardo; and the CEO and General Director of Pirelli Neumáticos de México Paolo Benea.
The expansion of the plant, located in the “Interior Port” Industrial Park of Silao, is contemplated for the period 2022-2023 and will increase production capacity from 7.2 million tires in 2022 to 8.5 million in 2025.
Pirelli, which is the official supplier of tires for Formula 1 cars, opened its plant in Silao in 2012 with 300 employees. and a production capacity of 1.5 million tires per year. Today, with around 2,800 employees, its production is focused on the high-value segment, producing high-performance and ultra-high-performance tires for electric vehicles, SUVs, and light trucks.
Pirelli mentioned that the Mexican factory has always developed the most innovative Pirelli solutions, such as Cyber Tyre, the PNCS (Pirelli Noise Canceling System™) and RFID writing oriented to tire tracking to provide product information to the entire logistics chain.
“The Silao plant is one of the most technologically advanced in the Group and will soon house a new Pirelli Research and Development Center. As we have done for 10 years, we continue to firmly believe in Silao and its people.”, said Marco Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice President and CEO of Pirelli.
For his part, the governor of Guanajuao, Diego Sinhué Rodríguez, affirmed that the constant investments confirm the strategic importance of this plant “and ratify the confidence that Pirelli has in our state.”
