The company Oppo has made a name for its name as an innovative smartphone manufacturer in recent years, as the new ColorOS 11 operating system was announced yesterday. Oppo smartphones are now also eagerly finding deductions in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, the company is expanding its smart-device ecosystem with new type of products, such as wearables and AR glasses.
The first Oppo smartwatch, called the Oppo Watch, was announced in March this year. The smartwatch was given a rectangular design, which quickly made the comparison with an Apple Watch. Manufacturers such as Samsung and Huawei usually opt for a round watch case.
It is possible that we will also be able to welcome such a type of Oppo smartwatch in the (near) future, according to newly discovered information by LetsGoDigital.
Oppo smartwatch with a round screen and digital crown
In September 2019, Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications filed a design patent with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration). The documentation was published today, September 15, 2020, and shows 3 different types of smartwatches.
The first design shows a lot of similarities with the already introduced Oppo Watch. This smartwatch has a beautifully rounded display and a rectangular housing. Numerous sensors are built into the rear and the sides are equipped with the necessary control buttons.
The second model shows many similarities with the first design. This time, however, a wristwatch with a square design was chosen. As a result, the screen surface is slightly smaller than with the first model. Equally striking is that this Oppo smartwatch is equipped with a flat display, instead of a curved edge display. This may be a cheaper model. The sensors at the rear seem to be identical to the first model.
The third model (shown in the images above) is the most controversial, all the more because this design differs strongly from the current Oppo Watch. It is a round-shaped watch with a rounded screen on all sides, this is also called a 3D curved display. This makes the watch look very unique and futuristic. This design will probably appeal to many ladies, although it is undoubtedly also possible to make a cool men’s version – using different types of watch straps.
Also characteristic is the crown that is placed on the right side of the watch, it is not visible with the rectangular and/or square model. One physical button is located directly above the digital crown. In terms of sensors, this smartwatch seems to be the same as the aforementioned variants.
Future Oppo Watch models
In July this year, Oppo announced that the Watch will also be sold in Europe. In neighboring Germany you can since then buy the smartwatch for a suggested retail price of only € 250. At the time, no information was available about availability in the Netherlands. However, we have good news, because it will soon be possible to buy an Oppo Watch in our country! Oppo Netherlands has shared the following information about this with LetsGoDigital.
Omar Al Azami, PR & Communication Manager OPPO Netherlands: The Oppo smartwatch is also coming to the Netherlands in Q4 2020. We expect to be able to share more concrete information about this in the coming weeks.
Whether Oppo indeed has a round smartwatch in development remains unknown for the time being, but it is certainly not entirely unthinkable. Oppo is part of the Chinese multinational BBK Electronics, which also includes OnePlus, Vivo and RealMe.
Earlier today, Vivo launched another official trailer for its first smartwatch, which will be announced on September 22, 2020. The promo video shows that the Vivo Watch will also have a round design. Sister company OnePlus also seems to be developing a smartwatch with a round housing, and the same also applies to RealMe. However, there is one clear difference, because only the round Oppo smartwatch has a 3D curved display.
Anyway, it cannot be ruled out that a round Oppo watch will also be released in the long term. It is possible that we will hear more about the new Oppo wearables at the time of MWC 2021.
