A few days ago we had the opportunity to attend the official presentation of the OPPO Reno10 5G in Mexico. There we had the opportunity to talk again with the CEO of the company for this country, Eduardo Morones.
The talk was a sort of continuation of the previous interview, which we had in March 2023on the occasion of the launch of OPPO Find N2 Flip. Where the executive revealed to us some details of the growth that the company had had in the national territory recently.
A few weeks later the foldable became a bestseller and things seem to have gone well for the brand. So we did not miss the opportunity to discuss what they have experienced in this period and in the process we obtained very juicy information about the future of the Find N3 Flip in Mexico.
The OPPO Reno 7 was a benchmark in its segment and now the Reno10 5G arrives with a very attractive price (MXN $9,999). What would you define is the strategy for the Reno10 5G to be its replacement?
To define the price of the Reno10 5G we asked an open question: “Hey, without knowing, what price would you give to this device? [El OPPO Reno10 5G] And the prices were much higher. Due to the specs, finishes and look and feel of the phone.
We are very convinced that it is a very good experience and a perfect evolution for this generation of consumers who now have to buy a new device.
We consolidated the sales issue very well in that segment and we are already in a cycle of buybacks. Where the people who bought the Reno 5, the Reno 7, go for the 10. We enter, then, a virtuous circle.
We have the best rate on quality issues in Mexico, the sales channels and the sales force were very important for this. Since they recommend to the consumer what to buy.
In the Reno family we are in 50% Market Share in this segment; We have done so well that competitors are beginning to follow us in this sector.
With the OPPO Find N2 Flip they managed to compete with the big guys by innovating in terms of design, as happened with the positioning of its external screen and the camera. Are there any similar disruptive improvements that you detect in the Reno10 5G?
Two issues that have worked for us and we continue along the same lines are, first of all, improving the experience of using the camera and video. OPPO is a benchmark in this segment that I mentioned to you and it is something that we are asked for more and more.
The issue of the battery, since it is ideal that it lasts all day or that it integrates fast charging. At the same time, we have also focused a lot on the young market, with the issue of available colors.
They are the three pillars that we have finally followed with this line and we remain focused on that.
I can be a little more surgical about how OPPO is, because yes We are approaching 16.17% of Market Share in Mexico. We are actually fighting between second and third place.
And we don’t play in it 25% of the businesswhich is in the segment [smartphones] below $4,000 pesos. We made the decision not to have phones smaller than that figure because the consumer experience has to be good.
And also in the Premium range we had decided to bring a flagship little by little. That’s why we launched the Find N2 Flip with a very small distribution.
La Familia Reno’s strategy has helped us a lot to improve brand recognition in Mexico and we risk moving up, to have a higher segment. We are working to continue growing in those areas.
Given the level of success of the N2 Flip, will you be encouraged to bring the OPPO Find N3 Flip to Mexico?
Yeah! We’re on it. Hopefully in a short time we will give you a surprise about when we will launch it in Mexico. But yes, the answer [con el Find N2 Flip] It was very positive, we fell short. we had stock out weeks after launch.
We will increase the volume and distribution. We already tested the market in that segment. We have more brand recognition and we can fight better than before.
