The OpenAI company, which became famous with ChatGPT, its chatbot powered by artificial intelligence (AI), launched on Tuesday GPT-4, a more powerful upgrade to its previous model that can analyze images and has greater reasoning abilities.
The artificial intelligence research company stated that GPT-4 “exceeds ChatGPT in its advanced reasoning capabilities.”
The new version can process questions and commands, as well as generate longer responses, so up to 25,000 words, 8 times more than the first version of ChatGPT.
This new tool can, as exemplified this Tuesday in a virtual event by Greg Brockman, president and co-founder of OpenAI, from creating a web page from a photo of a handwritten draft of that same web to answering complex questions related to tax filing.
“GPT is not a certified tax professional, and neither am I, so you should always consult with your tax advisor. But it can be helpful to understand complex content and be able to empower yourself to be able to solve problems,” Brockman explained in a presentation.
Regarding possible errors, Brockman stressed that it is not a perfect tool.
“But neither are you (you’re perfect). And together with this amplification tool you will be able to reach new heights, ”he added.
Another novelty is that GPT-4 has the ability to describe, analyze and understand images thanks to “Be My Eyes”.
Brockman asked GPT-4 why a drawing of a smiling squirrel taking photos was funny, and the chatbot replied, “The picture is funny because it shows a squirrel holding a camera and photographing a walnut like a professional photographer. It’s a funny situation because squirrels generally eat nuts and we don’t expect them to use a camera or act like humans.”
The new model is available to the general public through ChatGPT Plus, OpenAI’s $20 monthly ChatGPT subscription and is the tool behind Microsoft’s chatbot, Bing, according to specialized media.
OpenAI also announced that has partnered with various companies including Duolingo, Stripe and Khan Academy, to integrate GPT-4 into their products.
This wasn’t the only AI-powered chatbot-related news a tech company made today, as the giant Google announced a set of upcoming generative AI features for Google Docs, Gmail, Sheets, and Slides.
The functions they will offer will be similar to what OpenAI’s ChatGPT provides, but using a different technology.
While, users will be able to use AI to get summaries or insights into Google Docs or generate full emails in Gmail, among other things.
