Almost two months after the invasion of Ukraine began, OnlyFans has decided to freeze the accounts of its Russian creators, although, at the moment, it is not known what will happen to the site.
On February 24, alarm bells sounded around the world when Russia took an important step in its conflict with Ukraine, which, according to figures from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), has added the number of 2,300 civilians, including 177 children.
To date, more than an early exit, what is happening is that the conflict continues to escalate and the sanctions imposed on Russia also continue to increase.
As it has become known today, Russia is the most sanctioned country in historya nation that also collects the permanent and temporary blocks of hundreds of companies from various sectors, from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Netflix, Amazon, PayPal, American Express, among many more.
OnlyFans leaves its Russian creators without a platform
This day, to that already immense list of corporations that are leaving Russia, is added one of the most controversial and popular social networks in recent years: OnlyFans.
The arrival of the pandemic has accelerated the growth process of OnlyFans, a platform best known for sharing explicit content, although for several people it has positioned itself as an important source of income.
Today, OnlyFans has registered more than 170 million users, of which one million are content creators; however, a recent statement published by the platform has cast doubt on the future of Russian creators.
And it is that, as the company expressed it and joining the wave of blockades and sanctions, OnlyFans has decided to leave Russia:
“Over the past few months, we have explored various options to continue providing our services to creators affected by the war between Russia and Ukraine; however, OnlyFans can no longer adequately serve our community of Russian creators. As a result, we are taking steps to temporarily pause accounts where payments are received in Russia.”
However, this is not the first time that the platform has carried out a blockade of this magnitude, since last February, days before the invasion of Ukraine began, OnlyFans blocked creators located in Russia from accessing their accounts and earnings.
Two months after the conflict began, OnlyFans once again blocks the accounts of Russian content creators, although this time it argues that the measure has to do with the fact that, due to the departure and suspension of other companies , it is impossible for him to focus his attention on the community.
So far, the suspension is temporary, but it is not known what will happen to the content creators. Now, what this decision by OnlyFans reveals is that Russia is not a good setting for those who are dedicated to uploading content to their social networks, because let’s remember that Instagram, TikTok and YouTube have also suspended their services in the country led by Vladimir Putin.
