After a solid debut on Netflix, those responsible for the live action of one piece have big news for fans regarding the premiere of a potential Season 2.
With 18.5 million views in its first four days, the series starring the Mexican Iñaki Godoy debuted as one of the 10 most viewed content on the platform in 93 countries, and held the position of honor in 46 of them. Although the platform of the red “N” has not yet given the green light to another season, the heads of Tomorrow Studios -producer of the series, in association with the publisher Shueisha- think that all signs point to a renewal.
This was expressed by Becky Clements, president of Tomorrow Studios, in a recent interview with Variety:
“With the support of Netflix to [One Piece]we expected it to debut [como la serie] number one and we feel like your research and your algorithms probably saw the possibility of that as well. But on our post-launch calls, we were told we had exceeded expectations, which is fantastic”.
If consummated, the arc of redemption of this production company would still stand after the disastrous reception of its adaptation live action of cowboy bebopwhich was canceled less than a month after its premiere in 2021.

As if that weren’t enough, Marty Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios, confirmed that they already have “scripts ready” for the complete second season of one piece. However, the Straw Hats would also have to wait for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strike in Hollywood to be resolved before heading back to the Grand Line.
Now, regardless of how long it takes to resolve, the Tomorrow Studios president offered a tentative window of how long it would take them to complete the next batch of episodes:
“Realistically, hopefully, [tendríamos lista la segunda temporada de One Piece] Within a year, if we act very quickly, and that is a possibility”Clements stated. “Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready to go on the air.”
Analysts see it as unlikely that the strikes in Hollywood will extend beyond 2023. Therefore, the return of Monkey D. Luffy and company to our screens could take place as soon as autumn 2024. However, the first half of 2025 seems more realistic. Of course, everything will depend on what Netflix’s long-term strategy is with this title.
“I think that [Netflix está] looking at various situations about how many episodes they make and how they split them up,” Adelstein reflected. “I think they are trying to figure that out this week. I suspect we’ll hear from you in the next week or two. There seems to be a great drive to keep [One Piece] up and running and devising a long-term strategy. So we’re looking forward to that.”
