Of the many successful franchises that Valve has produced over the decades, Portal is one that many members of the gaming community hold in the highest regard. With inventive puzzle solving mechanics, an intense atmosphere, and several memorable characters, the Portal series remains special to a large number of gamers.
However, the lack of a new installment in the franchise has made one of the original writers speak out on the matter.
as a study, Valve has had a long history since its inception in 1996. Although the company is primarily focusing its attention on Steam, as well as the ongoing development of the Steam Deck, there have been various rumors regarding the release of new installments of certain franchises.
And now, a recent podcast interview has shown, in a way, that when it comes to Portal, it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a new main installment anytime soon.
In the latest episode of Kiwi Talkz, a game-based podcast, Erik Wolpaw, one of the writers of the original Portal games, at the end of the interview, urged Valve to greenlight portal 3.
Citing the success of Aperture Desk Job, Wolpaw asked fans of the series to contact Gabe Newell, the CEO of Valve, to let him know how much they want a third game in the Portal series.
Perhaps the most poignant moment in the interview was when Wolpaw mentioned that he wasn’t getting any younger and that very soon, Wolpaw and several other Portal alumni will be “too old to work on Portal 3.” Considering that the last main installment in the series, Portal 2, was released in 2011, that sentiment is quite understandable.
