This afternoon’s Nintendo Direct promises to be quite an event for fans of the hybrid console.
This rumor is based on Spanish journalist Nacho Requena, director of Manual magazine and host of a radio show on Twitch. Requena suggested last Friday in one of those live shows that a Nintendo Direct focused on third party games would take place this week, which has ended up being true, and he dropped that one of the announcements of the event would be a game that came out a few years ago on other platforms.
Once the Nintendo Direct Mini was confirmed yesterday, Requena confirmed to a fan that the game he was talking about went on sale “between 2017 and 2018 depending on the version”. Later, he wished all his followers to enjoy the event today accompanying the message with a gif of Yoko Taro, responsible for the Nier series. In this way, Requena could be hinting at the arrival of NieR Automata on Nintendo Switch.
2017-2018, it came out between that time depending on the version 😉

Indeed, if it is NieR Automata, the dates that Requena comments fit. The Square Enix game was released in 2017 on PlayStation 4 and PC, and the following year, in 2018, it came to Xbox One. We’ll see if it finally comes to Nintendo Switch without doing too many technical or playable concessions.
The future of the NieR series
Following the notable release of NieR: Replicant ver. 1.22474487139…, remastering of the PS3 and Xbox 360 classic, the future of the series is somewhat uncertain. While for its creator, Yoko Taro, the series is already finished, Square Enix continues to register NieR-related trademarks and will even have its own anime coming soon. We will see if this supposed launch on Nintendo Switch supposes a new push for the franchise and the Japanese company decides to continue working on it for the future.
