The American astronaut of Salvadoran origin, Frank Rubio, predicts that in the future we will see people who speak Spanish both on the Moon and on Mars.
During a question and answer session from the International Space Station (ISS, for its acronym in English) with a group of Hispanic children, Rubio, a NASA astronaut, shared his belief that the presence of Latinos in space missions will be increasingly more common: “There will be someone who speaks Spanish on the Moon and on Mars”.
According to yahoo, the children consulted him about his emotional and mental state during his stay on the ISS, the personal valuables he carried with him in orbit and his diet. The event was organized by the Association of Ibero-American Educational and Cultural Televisions and the Ibero-American Scientific and Cultural News.
The record that Rubio pursues
Frank Rubio, whose parents are Salvadoran, has been on the ISS since September 29, 2022 and his return to Earth will last until September due to a failure in the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft.
If you manage to complete your space mission in September, he would become the longest-serving American astronaut in space, which would be a historic milestone for NASA. The astronaut stressed that you can never anticipate what will happen in the future, and if he achieves the record, he believes that it would be an honor shared by the entire NASA team and not just his.
Despite the challenges and sacrifices involved in being in space, Rubio expressed pride in inspiring young Hispanics to get involved in scientific research and space exploration.
Rubio’s prognosis on the presence of Spanish on the Moon and Mars reflects the growing diversity and scope of space explorationas well as the potential for people of different cultures and languages to participate in future missions beyond Earth.
