In accordance with Deadline, it will be the musical star’s nephew who brings him to life in this project. The 26-year-old is the son of Jermaine Jackson, brother of the late singer and who was also part of The Jackson 5. For those who doubt his abilities on stage, Jaafar began singing and dancing at the age of 12, so he has all to bring his uncle to life on the big screen.
Graham King, producer of the tape, reported through a statement (via Variety) that Lionsgate, the studio behind the biopic, He conducted a worldwide search to find the right actor who could bring such a musical legend to life.
“I met Jaafar two years ago and was struck by how organically he embodies Michael’s spirit and personality. It was something so powerful that even after leading a worldwide search, it became clear that he was the only person to get this role. I am beyond thrilled that she has joined to play her uncle. I can’t wait for the world to see him on the big screen as Michael Jackson.”
Director Antoine Fuqua is currently in post-production on the vigilante 3, with Denzel Washington. Nevertheless, the project is of high importance to Lionsgate, so filming will begin in the coming months. According to the studio, the film will explore all aspects of Michael Jackson’s life, including his most iconic performances, which made him “in the best entertainer of all time.”
“It’s incredibly exciting to see Jaafar bring Michael to life. From the first time I met him, there was a great spiritual connection. He has a natural ability to emulate Michael and great chemistry on camera,” added Fuqua.
