When it comes to creating action and open world games, Bethesda Softworks has had many successes. And the proof is in the success of his saga of The Elder Scrolls, whose titles correspond to 39 games for various consoles and devices; among them, Nintendo Switch, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Android and iPhone.
This RPG has shown an interesting face of role-playing games. In this way, we could mention the qualities of each one of them, which have greatly contributed to the fact that this popularity continues to exist among players, despite the fact that some of these titles were released more than a decade ago. And it is the case of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the fourth installment of Bethesda after four years of development. With a great acceptance among the public, this title, released in 2006, has guaranteed quality for its graphics and offers a novel proposal in gameplay in relation to its time. In addition to large spaces and greater interaction, the narrative is not far behind. In fact, together with its successor, Skyrim, they could be considered some of the best works in their genre.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, a fairly complex open world game
In case you haven’t played it, we briefly explain what the characteristics of this training are. Oblivion takes place in Cyrodiil, a region full of forests, ruins and snowy areas. that stand out for their details. Being an open world, the plot line will be displayed by several alternative missions. The player, in first or third person perspective, after being released from prison, will have to solve a multitude of tasks from the NPCs. Best of all, he will be able to interact with objects, visit the extensive map, improve his skills and, of course, have the possibility of being able to travel faster to achieve his objectives through mounts. While fulfilling his tasks, he will face various enemies, such as golems or giant rats. Finally, for combat he can get all kinds of armor and weapons and can even attack melee or use magic.
Due to the fact that the choice of technique is quite wide, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has kept its players in a rather enthusiastic attitude. Although, of course, some of them have made things a bit easier for themselves with the infinity of mods they created for different purposes. And, along with these contributions, also a fan of the saga has decided to test the graphics of the open world RPG with a new engine.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on Unreal Engine 5
Taking as a reference a title that once offered a lot in terms of its graphics, a Reddit user, called ControlWurst, shared an awesome build of Oblivion on Unreal Engine 5. The scene that we can see in this recreation is when the player leaves the prison he is in during the tutorial and later sees Cyrodiil for the first time. In this way, the image of the role-playing game looks much more realistic and current. Despite the video being very short, the work behind it is extensive and the rest of the Internet users congratulated him on the recreation. However, there were a few who pointed out some details that could be improved.
Without a doubt, the comparison between the original game and the recreation of Oblivion shows that the video game industry has made great strides in terms of quality and the many advances that we can see today not only in new titles, but also in videos like this one , are impressive thanks to the efforts of the creators. You can see for yourself the work:
In view of the quality that Unreal Engine 5 offers, we could imagine what a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion would be like, although Bethesda has not announced anything similar. However, it never ceases to amaze that 16 years after the launch of this installment, fans constantly continue to make creations like the one you just saw. In fact, with Unreal Engine 5’s new readiness for developers, we’ll likely see more and more indie projects developing various older titles with this tool.
