Success in school begins by involving parents in the learning process. And the goal of the family and the school is to work together to develop the skills of every child for lifelong learning. In this sense, educational institutions must offer them the following rights and responsibilities.
- In order to offer a service with official validity, it is important that the school or college has the authorization of the pertinent instance, for example from the Ministry of Public Education. In addition to counting said record, you must make it public.
- You must promptly report the registration fees (if applicable), any changes made to them, tuition, fees for any type of exams, discounts, scholarship plans or financing, as well as the respective late fees.
- Every educational institution must contain an endorsed study plan, official programs and trained personnel (teaching, administrative and operational) to provide a service of quality, efficiency and equity.
- Every child and/or young person has the right to receive a quality education free of discrimination regardless of their gender, race or ethnicity, disability or nationality, for which reason it is vital that the institution has a guideline based on human rights and children, in addition to enforcing it to promote equity and respect.
- For registration or enrollment, institutions must request the identification and health documents of the children to open the corresponding file, which will be confidential.
- Parents have the right to receive information about their child and their academic performance, as well as the respective grades in established periods.
- Parents have the right to review disciplinary actions taken against their children. And in case of any disagreement, to express it according to the channel designated for it.
- The institution must guarantee the right to special services at school to children with a physical or learning disability.
- Students have the right to make mistakes and thus learn from mistakes to progress. In addition to being supported academically and personally, especially by their tutors.
Remember, an educational institution has responsibilities and obligations towards parents and children, but education is a joint effort that requires the active participation of all. Assert your rights and those of your children!
