to the surprise of few NVIDIA is perhaps the main company focused on the development of what could well become the most powerful supercomputer on the planet, focused, above all, on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems: the Israel-1.
It is an almost irrefutable fact that AI systems will become the lynchpin of the computer industry and market in the not so distant future, so it is natural that the same trend will follow with the so-called super computers.
Just 24 hours ago we shared how the CEO of Hewlett Packard (HP), Enrique Lores, had revealed his perspective on the future for his company where AI would become the protagonist of all future features for the consumer market.
So much and to such a degree that the company would be close to launching its first models of Personal Computers or PCs with specific Artificial Intelligence functions to increase the productivity of its users, whether in a work, academic or even home environment.
It is under this scenario that we now know the first details about Israel-1, a super computer that would use Artificial Intelligence and that would have a brutal power of 8 exaflops, to position itself as one of the great ones globally.
How NVIDIA ended up involved in the development of the Israel-1 supercomputer
The news agency Reuters has published the first details about the Israel-1 project, where the renowned company dedicated to the development of graphics cards, NVIDIA, has ended up collaborating with 800 other companies and thousands of engineers for its creation.
Gilad Shainer, company executive, dimensions, in statements obtained by the agency, the capabilities of this project, which seems destined to become a historical benchmark for the sector, if all goes well:
“This supercomputer will be able to deal with its training process much faster, which will allow it to build work environments and develop solutions that can deal with more complex problems.”
From NVIDIA they affirm that the Israel-1 will have a power of eight exaflops, which is equivalent to eight trillion operations per second. And to speak of that level of processing power, it would cost to manufacture in the hundreds of millions of dollars, but the exact number that will be spent is still a mystery.
The most disturbing thing, however, is that the Israel-1 would enter operations at the end of this year, 2023, although it will take a little longer for it to reach the projected peak of its processing capabilities.
Even so, everything indicates that Israel-1 will be one of the most powerful artificial intelligence systems on the planet.
