Two years have passed since the detection of the first case of Covid-19 in Mexico -on February 28- and the pandemic seems to be giving way. At least that is what it appears. Therefore, it is very certain that next Friday the epidemiological traffic light in the Mexican capital will change to green, as will many of the states.
An encouraging figure is the reduction in mortality, which in this last wave of Covid has been 82%. In addition to the above, half of the states in the country have reported at least a couple of consecutive days without deaths caused by the new disease that is sweeping the world.
Similarly, the health authority reported five consecutive weeks with falling cases, resulting in only 0.8% of active cases, in addition to the fact that hospitalization for Covid has a reduction of 88% compared to the highest point.
Despite these indicators, the recommendation remains the same: follow sanitary measures and take maximum care of yourself, especially by not attending massive events, keep a healthy distance, wear a nose and mouth cover, and continuously wash your hands. On the government side, the calls it makes for laggards to come get vaccinated are fine, people who for some reason have not started or completed the anti-Covid vaccination scheme.
But in this context, from this space we once again call on the authority to include the group between five and 11 years of age in the Vaccination Program, because it is necessary to protect them, because it is fair and because parents demand it. for your peace of mind. In addition, minors can not only get sick, but also be a source of transmission of the virus.
To date, Mexico has supplied 182 million doses to 85.2 million people, 93% with a complete schedule. 90% of adults over 18 years of age have been vaccinated, as have 52% of children between 12 and 14 years of age.
By the way, in the case of adolescents with comorbidities, they have not been vaccinated as expected. The health authority had the expectation of around three million children and adolescents with comorbidities, but they have not turned out as expected. Parents, apply please!
