Basic level students in the State of Mexico you will enjoy an extensive Megabridge from November 1 to 5 on the occasion of the Day of the Dead, according to Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez. She has authorized three additional days of rest beyond the official calendar of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP). Therefore, students will not have classes from Wednesday, November 1 to Sunday, November 5.
This generous Megapuente will provide students and their families the opportunity to continue their Day of the Dead celebrations, enjoy outings, or simply spend quality time at home with loved ones.
Why does this 5-day Megabridge happen?
The reason behind this 5-day Megabridge is due to the inclusion of a holiday for the Day of the Dead on November 2 in the official calendar of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP). The Union of Teachers in the Service of the State of Mexico (SMSEM) added two more days of rest, on November 1 and 3. Therefore, basic level students in the State of Mexico will enjoy a three-day long weekend, from November 1 to 3, followed by a two-day long weekend, from November 3 to 5.
What other days of rest will there be in November?
Regarding additional days of rest in November, at the national level, the official SEP calendar establishes that Friday, November 24 will mark the end of classes for the month. However, some schools could suspend activities from Thursday the 23rd due to administrative tasks. In addition, Monday, November 20, is considered a holiday in commemoration of the beginning of the Mexican Revolution, so there will be no classes.
What to do if you are asked to work on a holiday?
If you ever find yourself in the situation of being asked to work on a holiday, it is essential that you know your employment rights. Mexican law, specifically article 73 of the Federal Labor Law, clearly establishes the conditions under which an employee who works on a holiday must receive compensation.
According to this legal provision, the employer must pay the worker double wages for tasks performed on a holiday. This ensures that workers are not required to work on their rest days and that they receive fair compensation for their extra time and effort, protecting them from labor exploitation.
