Actors Nick Jonas and Laurence Fishburne will star in the action-thriller The Blacksmith, directed by Pierre Morel for AGC, Deadline reported.
Jonas will play Wes Loomis, a weapons expert from an intelligence community who, when his clandestine lab is destroyed and his colleagues killed, flees with no company other than his technological skills and a CIA analyst, Noelle Hazlitt, who helps you stay alive.
They both head off in search of Mather, played by Fishburne, a retired agent and former mentor to Loomis to guide them.
There is no actress chosen to take on the role of Hazlitt yet, but the search is known to be underway; AGC noted that they will likely start production of the feature film later this year and that this could be the start of a new action film franchise.
The plot, with a script by Ben Ripley, is based on the graphic novel by Malik Evans and Richard Sparkman, published by Kickstart Comics.
The project will be produced by Jon Shestack, Jason Netter of Kichstart Productions, and Jeremy Stein, and will have Stuart Ford, Samantha Shear, Bob Sobhani, and Linda McDonough as executive producers.
“The Blacksmith will offer a fresh new take on the espionage genre, and it’s exciting to combine exciting young talent like Nick with seasoned heavyweights like Pierre and Laurence,” said Ford.
“We will soon announce an equally outstanding young actress to participate alongside Nick, and then we will have all the ingredients for a major new film franchise built around a very modern array of action hero.”
