Many will think that a soccer shoe is simply another shoe. But for Lino Edgar Marrero, a 15-year-old boy of Nicaraguan origin, a shoe like this can be a charger for cell phones.
Lino is from Frisco, Texas, but his mother is Sharon Solano Castillo, daughter of the former deputy and former president of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua (APEN), Azucena Castillo.
As it explains 100% news In a report published on its website, the invention is a rechargeable battery that fits in the sole of the shoe and that collects the energy generated when walking.
For that genius, he competes in the renowned Boy of the Year contest for small inventors in the United States.
How did you come up with this invention?
During halftime at soccer practice, Lino discovered that his phone had died. At that moment, he remembered a lesson in school on kinetic energy and thought: “What if I could transfer the energy I wasted in the field and put it in my phone to charge it?”
From that idea was born the Kinetic Kickz 2.0, which consists of a rechargeable battery that fits in the sole of the shoe and takes the energy generated by walkingwhich can be used to power portable devices.
The teenager explained to Spectrum News 1 in Texas that the technology could be more efficient and less expensive than other sources of renewable energy, such as wind and solar.
“The Kinetic Kickz 2.0 harnesses human kinetic energy as a new and clean alternative energy source. I could even put a small light bulb in the ceiling and it would make a world of difference.”
The youngster received an Inventor Communication Award and an Industry Innovation Award at the 2019 Invention Convention US Nationals when he placed first in the grades 6-8 category at the Invention Convention Globals, held virtually in 2021.
For Lino, children are better inventors than adults and he invited other young people to create: “For me, it’s usually about helping other people. Children are better inventors than adults, sometimes because they can be more creative. I just want to inspire more people to want to become inventors and help change the world.”.
