Nia DaCosta, director of the upcoming film The Marvelshas chosen to distance himself from social networks, as revealed in a recent interview with Vanity Fair.
It should be noted that he has not abandoned them one hundred percent, considering that at least his Instagram account is still active. But curiously, the very few posts on his profile have the comments section restricted. And the reason for all this is probably the same: the fear of having to deal with trolls who fill the web with hate and insults.
The Marvels serves as a sequel to Captain Marvel, one of only ten films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to have grossed more than $1 billion globally. However, although it obtained such good numbers at the box office, that 2019 film starring Brie Larson suffered a wave of negative comments before its release, many of which bordered on sexist. There was no lack of attempts to boycott Captain Marvel —the first MCU film led alone by a superheroine, whom Marvel Studios also presented as the most powerful in the franchise— and there were also manifestations of contempt against Larson on the internet, coming from those dissatisfied with her performance and public figure .
With such background and given the proximity of the premiere of The Marvels, it is understandable that Nia DaCosta prefers to avoid any interaction on social networks. Ultimately, with so many misogynistic and racist people on Twitter and other platforms, it is not ruled out that the sequel will receive the same unjustified rejection from these people that the previous film suffered. Perhaps now aggravated by the fact that a black filmmaker is taking the reins of the project.
“I’m preparing for it,” DaCosta declared in his interview with Vanity Fair. “I’m a sensitive soul, and I think many of us are more sensitive than we want to admit.”

The thirty-something director’s sensitivity also led her to recognize when she was stressed or overwhelmed during filming. In situations like that, DaCosta confessed to Vanity Fair who messaged and shared his feelings with the director of Shang Chi and the legend of the Ten RingsDestin Daniel Cretton.
“Sometimes you’re in a scene and you’re like, ‘What the hell does this all mean?’ Or an actor has to watch some crazy thing happening in space but, in reality, he’s looking at a blue screen,” he noted. “Obviously, there were tough days and days where you were like, ‘This isn’t working.'”
But regardless of the complicated moments, the director said she was delighted with the production of The Marvelswhere he had the opportunity, among many other things, to strengthen the bond of his protagonists, select locations, redesign costumes and even invent planets.

Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to get lost too. Preferably, in a movie theater.
