- After the impact caused by the pandemic, interventions have been resumed in all hospitals and clinics.
- A young woman who underwent cosmetic surgery died shortly after receiving anesthesia.
- The victim’s relatives have requested a thorough investigation because they suspect that there was medical negligence.
There are no risk-free interventions because Even the simplest-seeming cosmetic surgery always carries risks. The problem is when you don’t go to a qualified and certified professional because the consequences can be deadly. Unfortunately, these types of situations are more common than many think and no one is exempt, not even young people in good physical condition.
First of all, in 2022 Johnson & Johnson MedTech and the Institut de Publique Sondage d’Opinion Secteur (IPSOS) conducted the study entitled “My health in times of pandemic”. It was a survey conducted among men and women over 18 years of age, from different socioeconomic levels in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.
A differential of this study is the section dedicated to investigating the health of women during the pandemic. The results of the work were published and allow us to know how their behavior was during the last two years.
According to the research, the vast majority of patients in Latin America did not have to cancel or delay medical services. Plastic surgeries such as breast reconstruction, mammoplasty and breast reduction are in fifth place among these categories (3%). Among the main reasons for postponing plastic surgeries, the interviewees highlighted the lack of personal time (33%) and the fear of contracting Covid-19 (27%).
For its part, at the moment the panorama is different because gradually it has begun to return to the new normality. But now the important thing is to avoid repeating what happened in Brazil with a young woman who had just finished her medical degree and decided to undergo a plastic surgery.
Description of what happened
According to local media, Lizzi Ferreira Mareco he had just graduated from college and had a promising future. Within his dreams was to work in a hospital and help in patient care.
For her part, for aesthetic reasons she went to a private clinic in the community of Foz de Yguazú. The objective was to undergo a rhinoplasty and silicone implants. Everything seemed normal because both procedures are quite common and popular.
The problem is that nothing happened as planned. According to the ongoing investigation, the young woman was in good health at the time of her admission to the clinic. The victim’s next of kin were informed that He suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest at the time of receiving anesthesia. The incident was sudden and a few minutes later he died.

An investigation is currently underway to identify whether there was medical negligence. The next of kin have requested that they get to the bottom of the facts because what happened is not natural and it is difficult to believe that the interventions caused the death.
The proliferation of fake plastic surgeons
On the other hand, one of the most serious problems faced by countries like Mexico is the proliferation of fake plastic surgeons. Sometimes they are general practitioners who have only taken courses or seminars that lack official validity. And in another they are not even doctors but falsify their documents to deceive patients.
Therefore, the best recommendation is to only see a doctor who has the Plastic Surgery subspecialty and must also be certified. This ensures that you have the necessary knowledge to perform an operation.
