Only 48 hours until the world debut of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 73 e, the first plug-in hybrid from the star sports brand. The luxurious and sporty Mercedes saloon will become a new rival to beat in terms of power, putting a lot of dirt in the middle compared to its rivals thanks to AMG E Performance technology, with 816 hp.
More than a year and a half of delay that accumulates the new Mercedes-AMG GT 73 e, which should have been released just a year ago. However, the perfect set-up of what will be the Mercedes’ first high-performance plug-in hybrid, forced the German firm to change strategy, postponing the commercial launch and taking advantage of the mid-life facelift that the Mercedes-AMG GT Saloon has recently suffered.
In this way, the model will not only have a new look, but also will put the icing on the cake for the generation with a very important novelty. Because, born as an alternative to the Porsche Panamera, once again those from Affalterbach demonstrate the excellent quality of their experience with a model that will be the first of a new Mercedes-AMG, focused on electrification, and on plug-in hybrids to a greater extent.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 73 e 4MATIC, candidate for a new record at the Nürburgring
The new Mercedes-AMG GT 73 e 4MATIC is presented at a new teaser 48 hours after its world premiere, once again without distinctive details of this version that debuts the «AMG E Performance» technology, since aesthetically it hardly presents differences in the front and the rear, with a new diffuser, in addition to the obvious hatch on the rear bumper that hides the battery charging plug.
The flagship of the Mercedes-AMG range will offer low CO2 emissions despite its powerful powertrain, with the highest power level Mercedes has ever achieved: 816 hp, the result of the combination of the 4.0-liter, 612 hp V8 biturbo engine plus a 204 hp rear electric motor, equipped with a two-speed gearbox, which are combined with 4MATIC all-wheel drive and steering on the rear axle, in addition to a brake system with carbo-ceramic discs.
A version that will go on sale in 2022, and that very soon will be in the limelight because it seems like a new record at the Nürburgring to dethrone all its rivals, and especially the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and its 700 hp that, until now, were the maximum.
