Sega has shared a new trailer for Sonic Frontiers in the framework of the Tokyo Game Show where a playable Super Sonic could be seen. This character appears on an island covered in lava, during a new battle against a titan boss. Although the ambitious title never kept quiet about the role the Chaos Emeralds would play, it was never really confirmed whether players would be able to experience Super Sonic in the game’s open world environment. Now, it’s one of the many things you can look forward to when the game launches.
The Chaos Emeralds are a key piece in the history of Sonic Frontiers, as Sonic and his friends arrive at the mysterious Starfall Islands in search of them, since they had completely disappeared without a trace. After a wormhole sends them straight to the surface, the blue blur wakes up and is told by a strange voice to collect the Chaos Emeralds from the vaults. Now, with the inclusion of playable Super Sonic, at least players have a powerful reward for their efforts.

Nevertheless, the trailer also shows off the Titan boss monster gameplay, which until now had only appeared in cutscenes, as well as the appearance of an enemy trying to steal Chaos Emeralds from Sonic after players went to great lengths to collect them. It also gives players a glimpse of some rather expressive and harrowing cutscenes that show Sonic narrowly dodging the massive robot boss’s stomps.
