Samsung was the first manufacturer to market QLED TVs with Quantum Dot panels. The company opened the technology to other manufacturers, and we can currently find models with these panels with brands such as TCL, Xiaomi, Hisense or Vizio. In addition, LG also has its own panels with Quantum Dot, but calls them NanoCell. Now, a new manufacturer arrives with these panels.
We talk about nokia, Or better, StreamView, the company that has licensed the company name to sell televisions in Europe. These models are aimed at the mid-range, offering good value for money, and above all, AndroidTV as an operating system, something increasingly important.
QLED at a mid-range price
As we know, the QLED significantly improve the LCD TVs. The backlight is blue, which is brighter than other color gamuts. That light is filtered with the quantum dots, obtaining purer and richer colors, with greater brightness, better contrast, greater volume for HDR, and with the security of not having long-term burn-in.
The price of QLEDs has been falling more and more in recent years, and soon they will completely replace LCDs thanks to it. Therefore, it is not uncommon for us to see cases like today, where a company launches mid-range QLED models with sizes ranging from 43 to 70 inches.
These televisions, by having Android TV, have all the great streaming apps on the market, such as Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube or HBO Max, in addition to more than 7,000 apps. The response time is only 8 ms, ideal for using the TV to play games, even though the panel is 60 Hz.
36 W power speakers and rotating base
On a physical level, these televisions have a rotating base, so that we can easily turn the TV to be able to see it from another angle. The sound also has more power than other televisions on the market, since it has two 12W speakers (24 W total), and a 12W subwoofer to complement the sound and give it more body.
Inside we find a 1.2 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor, MALI 470 MP3 GPU, 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. On the back we have three HDMI 2.0 ports, two USB 2.0, Ethernet, optical, jack, etc. Wireless connectivity is WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 4.2.
The TVs include a remote with backlight to be able to see it comfortably in the dark. Also has dedicated buttons for Netflix and YouTube. It also has a button to use the Google Assistant to control the TV, home devices or search for content. It also has built-in Chromecast.
The prices for the different models are as follows:
- 43 inches: 650 euros
- 50 inches: 750 euros
- 55 inches: 850 euros
- 58 inches: 900 euros
- 70 inches: 1600 euros
The TVs will be on sale in Germany, which is where Nokia currently sells its TVs. However, it would not be unusual for them to open up to more European markets soon.
