The European Union, through the Transport Commission, controls all the technical aspects of the cars, and that the technical inspections of all the countries are in charge of verifying. From next March 1, a new measure for electric and combustion will be released, which will surprise you.
The Transport Commission of the European Union already has a new modification ready for the technical inspections of vehicles throughout its territory. All countries, including Spain, must check the condition of one of the essential components in every vehiclewhether traditional combustion or electric, and that you can not imagine.
The new measure will come into force on March 1so it will undergo a more in-depth review of the brake discs, something that is particularly more special for owners of electric cars. And it is that this type of models are more prone than those of combustion. Brake discs are made of steel or cast iron, and these materials can rust due to adverse conditions. For example, when they are subjected to excessive humidity and salinity or remain parked for a long time under very harsh weather conditions.
The new standard puts the focus on electric brakes
Starting from this technical basis, combustion cars use the brakes more so a film of rust disappears more quickly, which is not the case with electric vehicles, since they do not need to press the brake to decelerate, simply releasing the accelerator pedal. It can even come to a complete stop depending on the chosen deceleration mode. For this reason, the The European Union has decided to modify the inspection regulationspaying special attention to the brake discs of electric cars.
This is the great reason why Volkswagen electrics have rear drum brakes, since a large majority of those manufactured are destined for the countries of northern Europe, where weather conditions and humidity can cause rust on the discs. What they have solved with the rear drums with a greater seal. Specifically, the modification of the European Union affects the amount of rust concentrated on the discs.
Until now, a maximum of 25% was allowed on the contact surface of the rear discs and now this limit has been increased to 50 percent, while forwards remain at 25% maximum. The European organization will also ask to monitor another component from next summer. From August 1, 2022, the lowest boiling point of the brake fluid will be 150º.
