A few days ago, dozens of games were leaked to announce through the Nvidia Geforce Now database, among which were several games from Xbox Game Studios, known as Project Indus and Project Cobalt. Nvidia then claimed that many were “speculative titles,” but in the case of these Xbox games, journalist Jez Corden confirmed that they were true. Days later, he published an article on Windows Central where he talks in depth about these two games that are about to come to Xbox and PC consoles.
The first of them, Project Indus, would be about a turn-based strategy game in the purest Civilization style, with all that this entails. That is, it would have mechanics of city building, resource management, diplomacy, espionage, wars and other elements of the genre. This project would be carried out by Oxide Games, creators of Ashes of the Singularity, another real-time strategy (RTS) game, and would be in development for Xbox consoles and PC, including Steam.
As an interesting detail, Corden suggests that it could also be focused on cloud gaming through mobile devices, since Civilization, thanks to its turn-based gameplay, was able to integrate very well into this type of ecosystem and adapt to smaller screens.
The second and perhaps the most interesting project, Project Cobalt, would refer to the new game from InXile Entertainment, which we already know is a FPS RPG. New from the creators of Wasteland 3, according to Jez Corden, would be set in steampunk universe with buildings and streets typical of the Victorian era, vehicles, weapons and machines inspired by the Industrial Revolution and even retrofuturistic robots and zeppelins.
The image that accompanies this news corresponds to an illustration published through ArstStation by Aleksander Danilovac, one of InXile Entertainmet’s concept artists. According to the journalist, this could be the objective visual style of the game. For now, the little we know about the project is that it will make use of Unreal Engine 5 and that its announcement is not expected in the short term.
Beyond these two leaked projects of which some details are known, Xbox Games Studios would have other games in development unannounced, like the rumored Project Dragon. This game would be in development by IO Interactive, creators of Hitman, although at the moment there are not too many known details about it.
