Netflix has taken out the scythe with one of its most recent projects: Resident Evil, an adaptation of the legendary Capcom horror saga and which was one of its big bets for this summer. The series abandoned the original approach of the saga and took us to a dystopian future, controlled by the Umbrella Corporation, in which the daughters of Albert Wesker, Billie and Jade, would try to put an end to their Machiavellian plans. The series had an incredible reception in its first hours in terms of numbers. But it also ended up being fed by memes, criticism and the worst note of a Netflix series in the review portals. Reasons that most likely have contributed to its cancellation.
Netflix’s Resident Evil is canceled after a “disastrous” season:
As the portal collects dead line, Netflix’s Resident Evil debuted in 2nd place, with 72.7 million hours viewed in its first week. However, in the third week it only rose to 73.3 million and finally, as of the third week, it disappeared from the top 10. The reliability and “engagement” of viewers is one of the factors that Netflix values the most when it comes to renew projects. And it is clear that, in the case of Resident Evil, viewers ended up abandoning it or not following it, shortly after it was released.
For the same reason, Cowboy Bebop was canceled, despite having debuted with good numbers, and new series like Sandman hang in the balance, as Neil Gaiman himself commented on Twitter. Although other Netflix series are maintained and continue to measure up, the truth is that the platform does not succeed with its adaptations. Will you change your strategy for the future?
