- A new regulation has opened the door to the possibility of Netflix being free by 2022.
- Royal Decree-Law 7/2021 states that the transfer of data by the user or users could be taken as a way to pay for the service.
- Netflix is, so far, the most popular platform on the market and, in turn, the most expensive, with three subscription plans: basic, standard and premium.
A new regulation that is about to take effect opens the door to the possibility of Netflix being free in 2022. This is what we know.
We know very well that Netflix is, today, the most popular streaming platform in the world, not only in terms of the number of subscribers, but also due to the effect caused by its most recent hit, “The Squid Game” .
In recent weeks, Netflix has been at the center of all discussions on social networks thanks to its new production that, incidentally, is the most watched in the history of the platform and, without a doubt, a resounding success in terms of marketing.
In the same way, as part of this enormous growth that Netflix has had thanks to “The Squid Game”, it is said that more than four million new subscribers came to the platform, with which it already adds about 213.5 million new users and expects to reach 222 million by the end of 2021.
Netflix, free for next year?
Now, new information has leaked that speaks to the real possibility that, by 2022, Netflix will be free for users. How could this happen?
As reported, thanks to a new regulation that will modify the current General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users, the information or data could be considered as currency.
This is how Royal Decree-Law 7/2021 expresses it, which states that the transfer of data by the user or users could be taken as a way to pay for the service, since now that activity will assume that there is already a commercial contract between the company and the users.
Under this premise, it is anticipated that the users’ form of payment to the platform will be through the transfer of their personal data. In other words, it is a kind of agreement where, if you provide your personal data, you could have free access to streaming platforms.
Given that, the question that arises is: will there be someone who decides to give all their personal information in exchange for having a streaming platform like Netflix for free? Everything indicates that yes, there are people who would be willing to carry out such an exchange.
It’s not official … yet.
This, as such, has not been made official. So far, Netflix has not expressed itself in this regard, although with this law, which will come into force from next January 1, it seems that a door has been opened to make it a reality, although, apparently, to a very high non-monetary price.
Netflix is, as we already mentioned, the most popular streaming platform and the one with the most subscribers worldwide; however, it is also the most expensive.
The platform has three subscription plans: the basic one with a cost of 139.00 Mexican pesos; the standard one with a price of 196.00 Mexican pesos; and a premium plan that has a value of 266.00 Mexican pesos.
