The video game industry is moving fast, with changes and updates that most companies have to expand their business to other borders. This is the case of the giant Netflix, who confirms the creation of an in-house game development studio, looking for another growth strategy, quite the opposite of other companies whose purpose is the acquisition of other studios.
Through an official announcement on its website, the streaming giant Netflix has confirmed that it is creating and establishing its own video game development studio, to expand strongly in the industry. The studio will be based in Helsinki, Finland, and will be led by former Zynga VP Marko Lastikka. The choice of the venue, has been thought because “it is the home of some of the best video game talent in the world”, says Netflix.
Netflix confirms creation of in-house game development studio
“Netflix is moving smartly into the gaming space,” says Phil Spencer
Before this announcement, the vice president of game studies of Netflix, Amir Rahimi, has detailed the following (translated): “This is another step in our vision to build a world-class game studio that will bring a variety of delightful and deeply engaging original games, without ads or in-app purchases, to our hundreds of millions of members around the world. Creating a game can take years, so I’m proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundation of our game studios.”
Decisive news for the video game industry, which will now have another strong competitor if it knows how to do things and develop games that can have a direct impact on players and competitors. It is still too early to see and analyze all this, but the intentions of having a space in the industry are clear, with a very hopeful future for Netflix.
