Dull hair is coarse, dry and difficult to style. We must take extreme care and always finish washing with cold water to close the follicles
Restoring the luminosity of dull hair is not an easy task. The lost shine reduces aesthetic sensation.
These types of hair are generally dry, coarse and difficult to style. They look bad to the eye and to the touch.
So, know some natural masks and tips to treat dull hair.
Characteristics of opaque hair
The loss of shine or luminosity in the hair is due to an imbalance or alteration in the hair shaft and in the cuticle. This can be caused by a bad diet, the weather, mechanical aggressions (such as some styling products, violent or dry brushing, the iron or the dryer, etc.), the rays of the sun (especially in summer when leaving the swimming pool full of chlorine or salty sea), stress, pollution (smog, tobacco) and the use of water that is too calcareous or “hard”. Some tips to stop your dull hair from looking as such, lifeless, are:
- Let it dry naturally. Do not use the hairdryer so much, unless you have to go out, it is very cold or you go to bed right away.
- Forget for a time the dyes, the straightened or the permanent ones, that dry and spoil the hair
- Do not abuse the softeners, because they make it look increasingly opaque. Among its ingredients is silicone, which sticks to the hair cuticle and deteriorates it
- Use shampoo and conditioner for dull hair
- Always finish washing your hair with a little cold water, to close the follicles
- Improve your diet, since one of the causes of dull hair is a lack of vitamin B6 and iron. Choose foods that contain Omega 3 fatty acids and B vitamins (nuts, almonds, dairy, wheat, brewer’s yeast, and cereals). Also, don’t forget about zinc, present in egg yolks, shellfish and lentils.
- Occasionally, use a hair ampoule, one of those sold in perfume shops. They can be great allies for your condition.
Remedies, recipes and home secrets to increase hair shine

These masks will be of great help in your fight against dry and dull hair. Do not hesitate to try them to get excellent results.

- Mix a tablespoon of honey with egg yolk until you get a cream.
- Spread well on dry hair, with circular massages on the scalp.
- Put on a hot towel and leave it on for at least ten minutes.
- Then rinse well and wash your hair as usual.
- After using the shampoo for dull hair, it is recommended to rinse with the juice of one lemon and one tablespoon of vinegar. Brightness will be guaranteed. Also, you can do it before or after the conditioner.

Homemade rinse for brighter hair
This lotion will make your hair more than luminous in just 15 minutes. It is a very good option for a salon result, but at home and with natural products.
You only need fresh rosemary and water:
- In a saucepan, place a large amount of water and add fresh rosemary sprigs.
- Place on the fire and let it boil 15 minutes.
- Remove, let it warm and strain the infusion.
- Apply the liquid to the scalp as a final rinse, after your traditional shampoo and conditioner wash. Do not rinse.
Carrot, egg and avocado mask
For this recipe for a homemade mask for dull hair you will need a carrot, half an avocado and an egg yolk.
- Place the carrot in the mixer (once you peel it) and grind it to a paste. You can also grate it.

- Apply to the scalp and let it act for about 20 minutes.
- Rinse with plenty of warm water and wash as usual.

- Remove the peel from the bananas and then step on them.
- Squeeze the oranges.
- Blend everything for several minutes until you have a homogeneous paste.
- Apply the lotion to the scalp and hair in its entirety (especially at the ends, where it is usually drier and more opaque), massage well with the fingertips.
- Let it work for two hours, cover your head with a plastic cap or a towel.
- Rinse well and wash as usual.
