For decades remote space exploration techniques have improved dramatically, thanks to the efforts of the scientific community working together with institutions such as the POT. This is how we have discovered countless exoplanets in recent years.
All through the use of telescopes and other instruments that have facilitated the discovery of these stars that in many cases retain some elements in common with our planet.
Such a situation, as would be obvious to expect, has led to speculation that, at least from a statistical perspective, there is a strong possibility that out there in some corner of the vast universe there is a planet with habitable conditions just like ours.
The best idea of this would be NASA, which has compiled the information from all these findings over decades.
But, curiously, today they have made all this information available through an unmissable website that compiles a great list with the most curious stars they have found.
HIP 99770 by other exoplanets that NASA considers the strangest
The website of the space agency that we are reviewing today is called Strange New Worldsand there a relatively short list is compiled with the 23 rarest exoplanets that have been discovered so far.
In the compilation we find some old ones known as the legendary kepler-16bwhich we already talked about at the time, because it is an exoplanet that is about 245 light years from Earth and, like Luke Skywalker’s home planet, Tatooine, in the Star Wars universe, would have two sunsets if you could stand on its surface.
we also have WASP-12b, Located more than a thousand light years from Earth, it is almost twice the size of Jupiter and is considered a hellish exoplanet due to its temperatures, which exceed 2,200 degrees Celsius. But perhaps its most distinguishing factor is that it is egg-shaped.
Equal to the list has just been added the good HIP 99770b, a Jupiter-like gas giant located 132.8 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. It is a faint, quasi-ghost exoplanet that can be lost in the glare of its bright host star.
But it was found thanks to a new observation and image contrast technique that managed to detect its presence.
The website is priceless and we highly recommend reviewing it.
