Between 2019 and 2022, Nacional Financiera (Nafin) and the Banco Nacional de Comercio Exterior (Bancomext) have served an average of 532,805 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Mipymes) in the country each year, offering loans and guarantees, of which 90% are channeled to microenterprises.
Thus, on International Mipymes Day, Nafin and Bancomext reiterate their commitment to maintain permanent support for companies in the country. Proof of this, as of March of this year, the balance of Nafin’s portfolio with Mipymes amounts to 423,070 million pesos, of this amount, 40.7% has a guarantee from this bank.
For development banking in Mexico, the relevance of this business sector is enormous for the country’s growth. Of the total MSMEs served by both banks, more than 80% were concentrated in 19 states of the country: Baja California, Chiapas, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, State of Mexico, Michoacán, Morelos, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz and Yucatán.
Guarantees for MSMEs
They also work with 20 commercial banks that participate in their guarantee program, with which they can offer financing to MSMEs with low risk.
Through the Productive Chain factoring program, 18,400 companies have been supported on an annual average. Of these, 95% are MSMEs, which demonstrates the development bank’s focus on promoting smaller companies. In addition, with this program it has been possible to grant financing, from 2019 to date, 1,013 billion pesos, thus contributing to the strengthening of the business fabric in Mexico.
In addition, through its Business Development Center (Cedem), in the same period, 123,682 users have been served with 297,247 hybrid courses (face-to-face and distance), offering tools for more MSMEs to achieve financial inclusion, become stronger and consolidate.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), MSMEs are the majority and represent more than 90% of the businesses in the country, in addition to being responsible for generating 72% of employment in the country and contributing more than 42% of the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Mipymes Day was established on June 27 at the initiative of the United Nations (UN), with the purpose of raising awareness among the population about their contribution to the sustainable development of nations as they are key factors in reducing the poverty.
For Nafin and Bancomext, the commemoration of this day is especially relevant considering that both banks have a history of almost 90 years, supporting MSMEs in accordance with their mission of contributing to the development of Mexico by facilitating access to financing and other business development services.
At Nafin and Bancomext they will continue to promote the country’s MSMEs, since they are an important part of the development and growth of Mexico.
