At two years of age it is normal for your child to be afraid to go to sleep. Quiet! Here we tell you what to do.
WHAT CAN YOU DO IF YOUR CHILD IS AFRAID TO GO TO SLEEP?
According to specialists, at two years old children can manifest night terrors that prevent them from sleeping, even being afraid to do so. Although it is a normal and temporary stage, it is important that you take into account the following so that your child can sleep peacefully:
1. Talk to your child during the day about what he can do when a nightmare arises.
2. Give her an item that she feels safe and comfortable with, such as a teddy bear, a blanket, and even your favorite scarf.
3. Before sleeping, turn off the lights in your room and talk about things that may seem “scary.” For example, if your coat looks like a “ghost”, teach it that it doesn’t, you can even move it around to make it more comfortable and secure.
4. Avoid horror movies, stories, or television shows, especially before bed.
5. Try to use a night lamp, so the room will not be completely dark.
6. If your child wakes up in the middle of the night, try to calm him, but do not take him to your room with the intention of calming him. Since this will lead to dependency instead of developing your independence ability.
7. Ask your child about his dreams and nightmares, talking about them will help him conquer his fears.
8. Praise your child when he goes to sleep for “being brave.”
