Xiaomi has introduced a new version of its cheap alternative to AirPods in China. These are the Mi AirDots 2 SE and, although they share many features with the Mi AirDots 2s, they only cost half. We tell you what they offer.
Xiaomi’s wireless headphones catalog is more than well-nourished, and we find models with different characteristics and prices. The Mi AirDots are those that have a design more similar to those presented by Apple’s AirPods.
After launching the original model, the corporation soon put its successors on the market. Thus, the Mi AirDots 2 soon arrived, and more recently the Mi AirDots 2s, which were announced during the Xiaomi Mi Festival of 2020 held in early April, and which came with some improvements compared to the Mi AirDots 2.
Now, the Chinese giant has announced the Mi AirDots 2 SE, a more modest version of the Mi AirDots 2s that shares much of the features of its older brother but at half the price.
The Mi AirDots 2 SE are True Wireless Stereo headphones with the same design as the top model. Each helmet has a weight of 4.7 grams. They have Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity to offer a stable connection, they offer voice and touch controls, they have sensors to detect if the user takes them off to pause playback, and they have ambient noise cancellation during calls.
Furthermore, they are equipped with the same 14.2mm drivers that its big brother mounts, but the difference is that it only comes with the AAC codec and does not have the HD LHDC codec. To reduce costs, they are not compatible with wireless charging, while the Mi AirDots 2s are.
When it comes to autonomy, each headset offers up to five hours of playback, a figure that extends to 20 hours with the charging case.
It stands out for its good integration with MIUI, Xiaomi’s Android customization layer. They are paired with Xiaomi mobiles with a touch and it is possible to see the charge level of the case and each earphone.
At the moment, the Xiaomi Mi AirDots 2 SE are in the pre-sale phase in China at a price of 169 yuan (22 euros at the current exchange rate), half of what the top model costs. We still don’t know when they will reach other markets.
