MultiVersus came with everything, backed by Warner Bros. and all of its franchises. We were testing the technical test of the game on PC and we tell you everything you need to know.
Naked eye, Multi Versus looks like a copy of the beloved Smash Bros., but after playing it and enjoying it, it can be very simplistic to describe it that way. Because, if we are honest, it is the first statement we make, but let us tell you something specific: there is nothing wrong with putting a game like Smash Bros. as a reference point. Above all, because, although Multi Versus has an obvious similarity to Nintendo’s multiplayer fighting game, it knows how to shine with its own imprint. We played a version prior to the final on PC and we tell you everything that the new WB game made us feel.
Saying that all fighting games are the same is a bit of missing the mark of each game. Just to give a couple of examples, Street Fighter 5, Injustice 2 or Guilty Gear Strive do not offer the same gaming experience, although the base of the three is similar. Player First Games, who developed the game, knew in advance that comparisons were going to be inevitable, and they knew how to use that detail to their advantage.
The game is edited and produced by Warner Bros. Gamesso we are going to see many of the characters that the company has under its mantle. At some point, it reminded us of what the new Space Jam movie did with so many characters.. Initially, we will be able to play with Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman and Harley Quinn; Arya Stark, Bugs Bunny, the Tasmanian Devil and Tom and Jerry; Finn The Human and Jake The Dog, Shaggy and Velma, Steven Universe and Garnet; and reindog the only original character in the game, at least for now.
Each character has their own characteristics, and they are divided into thug, support, assassin, tank, and mage type characters. In addition, each one also has a specialty, which can vary between horizontal combat, vertical combat and some characters have the virtue of having the hybrid combat mode, a mix between the previous two. All this in addition to the main blows of each one, specials and combos. After several fighting sessions and trying the different modes, we can say that it is difficult for this game to bore you. You may like it more or less, but the fights are so intense and full of chaos and colors, that they really are great.
And it’s not a matter of just hitting the buttons on our joystick hard. Well, yeah, there’s a lot of that, and it feels like a lot of fun, but there’s also some strategy. There is the 1VS1 mode, an all against all of up to four players (a beautiful madness) and the duos mode, which becomes the icing on the cake. The idea is to compete in pairs and generate four knockouts to the opponents to achieve victory. And in this mode is where the strategy is most noticeable, since we can see how a thug-type character can work with one that is support, for example.
Another advantage that we find in Multi Versus is that it is not only free, but also cross-platform. And this is a huge difference. There is a lot of potential for competitive play in this title, and the fact that it can reach as many people as possible can position it much faster, and forcefully, within the world of esports. Let’s remember that Smash Bros. is only for Nintendo consoles, and although that doesn’t take away any merit, fame, recognition, much less quality, it is true that it limits it in some way. Fortniteto make a comparison that we will take up again later, made its way among the rest of the Battle Royale with precisely the same formula.
Visually the game is beautiful. And he handles a style very similar to the one he handles Fortnite: very polished designs, with a personal imprint, all very rounded and with a cartoon style full of colors that really stands out a lot. The effects of lights and explosions give it a very flashy extra touch too, and the animations of each character are impeccable. All the characters are very faithful to their original designs, although those with more human characteristics (Batman, Superman, Shaggy, Velma, etc) show that highly detailed polish that makes them typical of this game. It can be said that, in the visual aspect, the visual style looney tunes it has quite a bit of power.
The technical test that we tried is almost all functional, except for the part of being able to pay with real money. Various characters come locked and can be unlocked with in-game currencies. But Multi Versus it has its own battle pass and in-game store, which, to be honest again, we’re really looking forward to seeing. Because as we already said, the franchises behind Warner Bros. they are many and it is very exciting to think of all the characters that can be added over time, unlocked or even bought.
It was learned that the Iron Gianta character in the homonymous film directed by Brad Bird in 1999, it will be part of the list. And there are some rumours, not yet confirmed, that put Godzilla, the Joker and Gandalf into the game. There is also talk of Rick (from Rick & Morty) and Raven from Teen Titans. Yes Warner really opens up his portfolio of characters, we go back to the comparison that we made at the beginning: all the characters that we saw in the new movie of spacejam they could be in the game. And we have no doubt that a company like Warner think ahead and if you step, seek to step strong.
Even reindogFor us, it is a complete unknown. Why did they put an original character in a game where the fun is being able to play with characters that we all already love? Is Warner planning something else behind Multi Versus? And yes, everything is possible, but we will have to wait, while we continue to enjoy this 2D fighting game with 3D characters and backgrounds, that does not yet have a release date but that in July it plans to activate an open beta for everyone. That’s all Folks!
