The pandemic remains one of the biggest concerns out there. So far it has caused 4.97 million deaths and the number is increasing every day. At the same time, it has also worked to show the scope of technology. It is not only about the vaccine but several health apps have been developed focused on Covid-19. Some work to provide verified information and others allow preliminary diagnoses to identify a possible suspected case. Do you know which are the most popular in Latin America?
To begin with, it is necessary to point out that there are currently around 3.8 million mobile apps. It is very difficult to make an official count because every day more are launched on the market. Although those that are inclined towards entertainment and fun predominate, there are also quite serious others.
In your case as a doctor, there are mobile options that you can take advantage of. The list ranges from those that help you plan your consultations to other specialized ones for the management of patients with diabetes, for example.
At the same time, during the last year different apps have been created against Covid-19 and they are not exclusive to developed countries. In reality, most nations in Latin America already have at least one option of their own. Whether for geolocation, informational or medical recommendation purposes, they are already a reality.
Health apps that you have at your fingertips
The federal government of Brazil, for example, made the Coronavírus-SUS application available to its citizens, which allows registering positive results of Covid-19 and alerting nearby people of possible infections. Since February 28, 2020, this app has registered 5.3 million downloads. Thanks to that figure, it has become the most popular of its kind in the region.
Now, thanks to the Statista database, it is possible to know the mobile apps against Covid-19 with the most downloads in Latin America. Within the list highlights COVID-19MX, the application developed by the Ministry of Health (SSa) and which to date is the most famous in our country. Since its launch on March 29, it has registered almost 654 thousand downloads, its main functionality being self-diagnosis to identify symptoms of the disease.
Although the most important thing that you should emphasize to your patients is that no app has the capacity to offer a definitive diagnosis. They function as auxiliaries to provide information and identify suspicious cases. If there is one, it is necessary to go to a detailed review or a laboratory to obtain an accurate result.
