One of the most exaggerated cases of physical versions without disc content.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare II will finally go on sale officially tomorrow, October 28, although it has been available for days with the pre-order privilege of some digital editions. Although what we are interested in talking about today is precisely the physical version of the gamesince some users have already been able to get hold of one of these copies and have been surprised by the disc space which occupies the new Activision game.
Specifically, it is the ps5 version disk space, although it is to be expected that the same will happen in the Xbox console version. It may be one of the most exaggerated cases of physical editions with practically empty disk where the game has to be downloaded almost completely.
Modern Warfare II disk space on PS5
According to ‘Does it play?’, a Twitter community specialized in testing whether physical console games can be played offline, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II disc in its PS5 version only has 72.23MB of data. This is less than 1% of the 100 Gb of space that the PS5 UHD discs have.
In the absence of the arrival of Warzone 2, the download of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is around those 100 Gb of space on a PS5 disc, so those who buy this physical version will have to download the game and need the disk to validate the game.

As expected, many users have reacted negatively to this news, considering it a total waste of resources and a way to fix deprecation of a game, when Activision decides to block that disc validation, since the game itself is not inside it. A recurring debate with the growing trend of including Day 1 patches and fixes that aren’t on disc, though most games on disc would be playable on their own, says streamer Lance McDonald.
People keep reacting to this with stupid takes like “all game discs these days are just a license key with mandatory downloads. Games haven’t shipped on disc for years lol get with the times” which isn’t true at all. 99.999% of retail games are perfectly playable from disc in 2022 https://t.co/v1F3V4yKBJ

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released on October 28 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. We’ll see what happens after Microsoft buys Activision, but Phil Spencer says he wants to keep Call of Duty on other platforms, just like they did with Minecraft.
