For the past five years, Call of Duty fans on PC have had to turn to Blizzard’s Battle.net app to purchase the latest games in the series. Starting with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, all Call of Duty games and services have been exclusive to Battle.net on PC to avoid fees from Steam and other stores.
However, this could change soon. There is new evidence indicating that Call of Duty could return to Steam with the next release Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Call of Duty fans recently explored the profile of the franchise at Steam. While recent Call of Duty games have not been released through the PC store, all games from Call of Duty: WW2 and back are still available.
At the bottom of this profile was an amazing graphic. It’s nothing complicated, just a link to the Call of Duty franchise portal at Steam. However, within the image is a piece of art from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Simon “Ghost” Riley’s concept art.
After the art was discovered and shared online in various Call of Duty communities, it was quickly removed and replaced with a blank blue graphic. With no official comment on the matter, there is no way of knowing what exactly it means.
It remains to be seen if it was uploaded too soon by accident and indicates an upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Steam release, or if the art was accidentally used and means nothing. The evidence at hand is not substantial. There is no firm confirmation or proof that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on Steam. So only time will tell.
